The number of seabirds in the Baltic Sea has declined sharply over the past 20 years and the future of several species is uncertain. The threats are many: fishing, poisons and the expansion of power plants. And despite the protection of large areas of sea, heavy maritime traffic continues to pass unhindered through sensitive natural areas. Since a large proportion of the world’s moose congregate on the shallow banks of the Baltic Sea, Sweden has a special responsibility to protect the unique moose. Since the mid-1990s, more than a third of all moose have disappeared. Now urgent action is needed to save the bird.
